The UFVA will be hosting a screening of the German film, Run Lola Run on October 10th in the Marshall Center Room 271. Writer/Director Tom Tykwer has managed to pack a lot of action into the movie, despite the short 79 minute running time. The energy of the film is intensified by the driving techno music that plays throughout. Come out and support the UFVA and see a great film at the same time! For more information on Run Lola Run, check out its entry in the IMDb.

Spring Semster Begins
The Spring semester has started and things are moving in to high gear. The UFVA has many events planned for the next fe months, the largest of which is the upcoming Chinsegut Festival. Support has been very good for the club so far, but we can always use more help. If you know anyone who might be interested, invite them to a meeting or point them to the list-serv.
Chinsegut Festival Taking Shape
The 24th Annual Chinsegut Film and Video Festival is proud to announce the following: We will be holding our festival this year on the USF campus at various theater locations (to be announced) and projecting films from around the world. We have received numerous submission will be viewing 20 films in two days. We are spotlighting the following films and videos:
1) London Briefs - a film by Jon Jost. London Briefs is an exciting stream of consciousness non-narrative documentary that takes the viewer through the city of London. Shot using mini DV and edited on the desktop, London Briefs has been seen at the Rotterdam film festival and has been invited to Cinequest (the San Jose film festival), to name a few. Running time 72 min.
2) Better Living Through Circuitry - a film by Jon Reiss. "Better Living Through Circuitry" is a film that was inspired by the electronic dance community and the culture it has produced. A cross-section of the electronic subculture is represented as ravers, DJs, and musicians speak for themselves about their music and ideals. Insightful and entertaining, the film presents such dynamic aspects of rave culture as empowerment through technology, the DIY (do-it-yourself) ethic, and the flowering of a new spirituality embracing transcendence through sound and rhythm. "Circuitry" has played to packed houses at festivals around the world and is going into worldwide distribution in March 2000. See it now, before everyone else, at the Florida Premiere on February 19 at 8 pm. Running time: 90 min. For more info on "Better Living" point your browser to http://www.hallucinet.com/cleopatra/betterliving.html.
We have had many excellent films submitted for consideration, and the decision process is underway. We hope to announce more films soon and the schedule as it is finalized.
In addition to the above film offerings, we are also going to have a limited new filmmaking tools expo. Vendors of equipment and services will show off the latest tools to help independent and low budget filmmakers get their work made and seen. Sponsors include Internet film distribution and productions companies and digital video camera and computer companies. We will be having two festival parties, including a dance party after screening "Better Living Through Circuitry." The festival is sponsored by the University Film and Video Association, The University Fine Arts Department, WUSF Television, Computer Advantage, and ifilm.net and J2K Pictures, to name a few.
USF students are able to attend the festival for free; non-students will be able to purchase tickets everyday of the festival for $4. per venue or $20 for a festival pass. The filmmaker's technology expo is free for anyone. For more info contact chinsegut@gtemail.net or call 727/514-6309.

"The Celebration" a big success!
On November 4, 2000, the UFVA hosted a successful showing of Thomas Vintenburg's acclaimed film, "The Celebration." We had a good turn out, and the movie was outstanding. For those of you that missed it, we highly recommend that you find a way to see this film. Unfortunately, this was our last film night for the Fall semester, but based on the success of "The Celebration," you can look forward to more film nights in the future.

Our first film night is set!
We will be showing "Waiting for Guffman" on October 11, 1999 at 8:00 PM in the Marshall Center, Room 271. This very funny movie was written and directed by former Saturday Night Live cast member, and co-star of "This is Spinal Tap," Christopher Guest. Part of our goal as an organization is to bring Independent and other non-mainstream films to campus. We hope that this will not be the last such showing that we have, and look forward to your support.
Club Meetings
We have made a slight change in our club meeting times. We will now be meeting Wednesdays in FAH 228 at 6:00 PM. We will also be meeting one Thursday a month, instead of Wednesday, somewhere in the Marshall Center. to accomodate those who have trouble coming to the Wednesday meetings. The first Thursday meeting is set for October 28th. Keep checking for location and time.
